A crime is any act that is defined by local, state or federal criminal laws as crime.  The common and statute laws of England were the original basis for many laws in the United States.  Other early laws developed from moral or religious issues.  Today's criminal laws have evolved from these early laws to encompass the needs, requirements and desired public policies that lawmaker's decide to address.
